First World War Art Exhibit
As part of Gallery 96′s show ‘Manipulate This’ I created this wall of work to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War; ‘Catch The Torch’. Included is a piece honoring my grandfather, James White McLellan, a soldier in the great war; August, 1914 to May, 1919; C Company, 6th Battalion, The King’s Own Border Regiment. He wrote: “Only that life is rich, that is kind.” He served at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, the Battle of the Somme, Vimy Ridge and Passchendaele. In 1939 when World War Two was declared, he threw all his medals in the sea. It was supposed to be “the war to end all war”.
